The 18th March to 20th March 2016 saw eight new recruits complete their Recruit Training Camp at RAF Barnham, concluding six weeks of training at 1109 (Thetford) Squadron.
Following an open night in February, eight recruits attended the squadron once a week and completed training in drill, communications, leadership and uniform as well as learning about the Royal Air Force and Air Cadet Organisation.
The Recruit Training Weekend was a chance for the recruits to bring together all they have learnt and familiarise themselves more with life at 1109 squadron. The intake and weekend was led by the Squadron Recruitment Officer, Sergeant Matt Drewry and assisted by a recruit NCO team. The recruits took part in drill sessions, sports, basic navigation, orienteering, leadership exercises, team work activities, uniform preparation and a night exercise on the camp. They completed the weekend and received their certificates on a ceremonial parade attended by parents, family members and friends of the recruits.
Sergeant Matthew Drewry said ‘the recruits training period and RTC weekend was a great success and it has been fantastic to see the group develop into Air Cadets. The squadron welcomes them to 1109 and we all hope they have a long and successful career within the Corps’.
